For apartment developers, staying a step ahead of your competitors is more challenging than ever. A popular solution for developers of high-end apartments, restaurants and hotels is to include a gas fireplace in the interiors, says Nigel Bamford of Escea.

"More and more, we're seeing developers looking for ways to bring a distinctive edge to their projects. Gas fireplaces are perceived as a way of bringing a welcoming ambience and strong focal point to a room," he says.

"The flue of an Escea gas fire can exit the room either through a wall or out through the roof. This makes them suitable for fitting into all apartments in a development, rather than just the penthouse."

Escea's glass-fronted gas fires have also attracted interest from restaurants and hotels. The fires can be controlled using a wireless accessory known as an i-con, which is particularly useful for hoteliers.

"We've been involved in several resort hotel projects, where the hoteliers are looking to enhance their visitors' comfort and enjoyment," he says."Our wireless control system allows the receptionist to control the guest room fires from a computer at the front desk. This means fires can be switched on as soon as guests arrive, so they find a welcoming fire in their room."

The gas fires have a slim aluminium surround that highlights the fire and flames. The minimalist styling makes them especially suitable for modern homes.
