Even though this remodelled bathroom measures just 2m x 3m, it has a spacious, contemporary feel
Whether or not you want a minimalist look, there's no doubt that paring back a bathroom to its bare essentials can make it seem a whole lot bigger.
Cameron Ireland, the designer of this remodelled bathroom, was faced with the challenge of modernising the 2m x 3m space while still providing a bathtub, separate shower and vanity unit.
"The original bathroom, which dated back to the early '80s, included a tired vanity unit and angled shower unit as well as a bath," Ireland says. "To provide a more spacious room, we integrated the bath and shower space, creating a single wet area at one end of the room."

The new shower is installed on the wall next to the tub. A glass screen helps to keep the water away from the vanity area. Similarly, a long drainage channel removes the water so it doesn't flood the entire bathroom.
To further enhance the sense of space, there are no mouldings or skirting boards, and just one type of ceramic tile was specified for floors and walls.
"Using large-format 600mm x 600mm tiles also makes the bathroom appear larger, as there are fewer grouting lines," says Ireland.
A custom-designed wood veneer vanity unit with a concealed drawer is cantilevered off the wall, reinforcing the open feel of the room. The mirror, which features integral lighting strips, provides another suspended element.
