The brief:

The owners of this new build in Auckland invited Cube Dentro to complete a contemporary design for their main bathroom.

A sense of surprise and drama was requested – essentially, the homeowners did not want a typical bathroom but they were hot on functionality.

The resulting design has embraced every opportunity to showcase the unexpected, while committing to an efficient layout.

A colour palette in soothing grey creates a timeless aesthetic.
Layers of textures cohesively applied to create a sense of rhythm and repeat – e.g. the basin and tapware in matching material, the little timber stool echoes the custom-made American Oak vanity unit, the strip lighting around the mirror is repeated under the floating cabinetry.
A bespoke floating vanity with a basin positioned off-centre creates a little drama but also provides functional benchtop space.

Repeating the playfulness is a customised mirror with warm strip lighting and a built in de-mister – the curved nature of the mirror helps to soften the room and also reflects the incredible pendant lighting.
A wet room area behind a glass screen maximises the feeling of space.
The pendant lighting choice is artful and original, almost like an expression of soap bubbles.
The use of oversized tiles in porcelain extends from floor to ceiling and establishes a vibe of luxe and space.

The shutters on the window create privacy and are a perfect match with the dark towel rail and switchgear.
Sitting on a slice of white marble (not quite full length) is a matching basin and tapware – altogether creating something offbeat that looks incredible.

Our homeowners are delighted with the result of this heavily-used room, commending its beauty, functionality and innovation.
