Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) structures are sustainable, lightweight, easy to work with and more importantly, offer a built in architectural alternative. When MOTAT sought to create a dramatic showcase in structural wood systems, CHH Woodproducts (CHHWP) was an important participant in the development of the solution, both in design thinking and product supply.CHHWP was contacted by Holmes Consulting Group in 2007 as it was looking at using LVL in the structural design."The CHHWP engineers brought more than 20 years' experience with large LVL structures in Australasia to the table. Several concepts for the display hall were put forward including structural LVL box beams, says LVL commercial manager Cameron Rodger. "We also took Studio Pacific Architecture, the quantity surveyors and MOTAT staff on site visits to other buildings such as the Marsden Point LVL manufacturing facility constructed using LVL structural systems. CHHWP's involvement continued with design advice to Carters Manufacturing, and erection advice to NZ Strong."Structural box beams cover the 42m clear span of the aviation display hall, supporting roof loads that include acoustic cladding and insulation. hySPAN was chosen as the material, due to its high stiffness, with cross-banded LVL webs for dimensional stability and strength.CHH Woodproducts The timber for this MOTAT Aviation Display Hall was selected and engineered by Woodproducts - A Carter Holt Harvey Company. 173 Captain Springs Rd, Onehunga, Auckland 1061Phone 0800 808 131 Fax (09) 633 1582www.chhwoodproducts.co.nz info@chhwoodproducts.co.nz Story by: Trendsideas 22 Nov, 2011 Office Trendsideas Home kitchen bathroom commercial design Latest Post Stone, wood and metal 17 Nov, 2024 Collaboration and connection 17 Nov, 2024 Who won? – 2024 TIDA Homes awards results announced 17 Nov, 2024 We know the Specialists Related Book More Books > NZ2715 NZ2715 Read More Similar Stories
