Colourful, reflective and light- hearted, glass eleents through out Brisbane Square are from Queensland Glass
DYNAMIC DESIGN elements are not reserved for the tower's exterior and adjacent plaza. Interior elements are equally arresting. One stand-out example is the floating pod element suspended in the tower foyer. Finished in colourful glass, it is one of the first things to catch the eye upon entry into the city council spaces.
"Queensland Glass played a substantial role in the Brisbane Square fit-out from this entry element right up through the building," says a company spokesman. "The material statistics alone give an accurate indication of the input by our company. Nearly 100 tonnes of glass were installed, representing 4000m² in total. This included painted glass, laminated glass, electrically charged glass, toughened glass and coloured laminated glass, as well as around 500m² of coloured film."
Work included diverse aspects of the ground floor entry foyer into the BCC offices, library and other public spaces. A walkway into the library theatre is faced in blue-green back-painted glass, while a white back-painted glass wall rises into the double height space above it. The glass-walled pod takes centre stage and features a blue-striped motif, repeated on glass offices.
"We installed the glass wall fronting one side of the pod and the frameless doors and wall surround on the opposite side," he says. "On the wall-only side, the blue-line motif is opaque below the floor line, concealing the services for the floating meeting room."
The glass company also installed facades on the gleaming glass-walled offices for Suncorp, together with various other glass elements for the upper-levels tenant.
"Like the pod at ground level, the Suncorp offices also presented a number of challenges," he says. "Unusual types of glass and a variety of door styles all required a precise industry knowledge to complete."
