Cladding provides architectural interest and helps prevents solar gain many of the exterior design solutions were achieved by Permasteelista
FROM THE tower's curtain wall to the podium's colourful box-like elements, Brisbane Square presents individualistic facets at every turn. With individualism come design challenges, and Permasteelisa brought solutions to many of the architectural conundrums that the project presented.
Permasteelisa was responsible for the design, engineering, manufacture and installation of the external facade components for both tower and podium. These included the tower curtain wall with sunscreens, tower core cladding, podium glazing screens, entry doors, and coloured cladding to the podium, roofs, soffits and skylights.
"One challenging aspect of Brisbane Square was designing the lightweight perforated sunscreen that extends off the curtain wall panels as individual components," says general manager Andrew Vatiliotis. "This was achieved with close analysis of the behaviour of the perforated aluminium sheet under full-scale tests."
Behind this, the facade comprises a unitised, pressure-equalised curtainwall system. Rigorous testing was also undertaken for this, using air, water and pressure to simulate extremes in weather. The curtain wall panels incorporate high performance low-E double-glazed units.
Another aspect of the project resolved by Permasteelisa was designing cladding systems for the colourful podium elements. These incorporate sloping slash windows, adding to their design intricacy.
"The podium solution was to provide a galvanised sheet rain screen overclad with custom coloured composite panels in an interlocking frame," he says.
