As well as providing the right aesthetics, it was essential to choose materials that would have the durability required to see the building through the next century.VM Zinc® Pigmento® in Autumn Red, supplied by Mico Metals, was specified for the roofs of both the old and new buildings. This material not only complements the bronze screen around the new building, it also fits with the other historic buildings in the precinct.Paul Orsler of Mico Metals says VM Zinc is a low-maintenance roofing that has been used in Europe for centuries. "The patina constantly renews itself as it weathers, which means the roof will continue to look good for years to come. VM Zinc is also an environmentally friendly option and 100% recyclable."For the new building, Mico Metals supplied the diamond-shaped TECU® bronze shingles that feature on the exterior of the courtroom, and the TECU copper shingles panels that clad the top of the dome on the outside of the building. Both these products came from KME, one of Europe's largest copper mills.Mico Metals has been supplying metals to New Zealand projects for more than 50 years.
