Sense of belonging
The design and materials used for this holiday home help it to feel embedded on the steeply sloping site

Often, families want their holiday home to be spacious so they can entertain and have overnight visitors. However, this does not mean that a complicated or ostentatious design is required.
Designer Mark Latta of Glow Design was asked to create a holiday home for owners who planned to entertain extended family and friends on a regular basis. At the same time, they still wanted their house to be sympathetic to the site and simple in design.
Latta designed a house with a footprint that follows the line of the ridge as it descends across the site.

"The house features a simple yet spacious floor plan and utilises an asymmetrical roof design to help counterbalance the trapped in mid-air sensation that some houses on ridgelines can produce," says Latta.
"Shadowclad was chosen as the exterior cladding for its versatility. It served both the practical and aesthetic intentions of the house perfectly.
"By using the Shadowclad exterior flashing range we have achieved quite a different visual feel without the house being overdetailed. The Shadowclad exterior flashings have definitely expanded the possibilities for creating great design with guaranteed durability," says Latta.
