Buildings with fully glazed facades can pose a challenge in terms of bathroom design. The Grantham apartment building, designed by Sydney architect Alex Popov, features such a facade, but the innovative design has enhanced rather than compromised this bathroom in a master suite. With a sandblasted film over the full-height window, privacy is assured, yet the bathroom receives plenty of natural light. Interior designer Lynn Malone added motorised blinds, which are concealed in the ceiling when not in use. The walls and floor of the bathroom are clad in travertine marble tiles, which also help to keep the bathroom light.Further privacy is provided by a large bronze glass sliding door that can be used to screen the toilet and shower compartments. The door has a substantial timber and polished bronze handle, which was custom manufactured.Bronze also features on the tub surround, echoing the oval shape of the Kaldewei Central Duo bathtub. The tub deck is clad in travertine marble, similar to the flooring. View of bathroom with freestanding tub in a copper surround, vanity with twin integrated basins, tiled floors. Malone says the essence of the owner's aesthetic preferences is reflected in the master suite colour palette and the tactile materials specified. The neutral backdrop is contrasted by dark timber veneers. The cantilevered vanity unit, for example, is in American walnut veneer with a black granite top. Walnut veneer also frames the lights at the side of the mirror. Masculine touches can be seen in the dark shelving and wall panels of the Poliform walk-in wardrobe.
