This country kitchen combines traditional design and natural materials to create a welcoming ambience
Considering what you like in your old kitchen can give you valuable clues when planning your new one.
The owners of this Barrett kitchen liked the traditional design of their old Barrett kitchen, as well as individual features, such as the kitchen island and open plate rack. Therefore it made sense for Warwick Beadle, Barrett Joinery's senior designer, to include these elements in their new house.
"The house is in the Central Otago countryside, and has been built in a traditional style using natural stone and timber sash windows, so I designed the kitchen to complement this," he says.
"Natural materials, including the thick stone wall between the kitchen and living area, clear-finished timber and granite benchtops, help link the kitchen with the rest of the house."
Other traditional features include framed panels for the cabinetry doors, heavy cornicing, a butler's sink and a furniture-style island with a thick Stonex top. Pull-out wicker baskets, skirting and a timber hanging rack complete the look.
Barrett Joinery designs and manufactures custom-built designer kitchens, as well as timber windows, doors, stairs and other joinery products.
