The fale itself, which provides the university with a meeting house and concert hall, is designed to closely resemble the traditional design of South Pacific meeting houses.

Modern touches in the design include the wooden floors, supplied and laid by Hardwood Technology. This patterned floor matches the fale's Pacific theme and maximises the reflected light produced by the overhead lighting system.

To meet the architect's specifications, Hardwood Technology created a system that accurately produced square boards with no gaps over a large floor area and, at the same time, kept the floor tiles flat. To do this, the floorboards were machined to very close tolerances with a tongue and groove to avoid filling, creepage or error in the pattern.

Hardwood Technology was asked to work on the fale by Ebert Construction.
