Improvements to rail infrastructure and upgrading Auckland's railway stations are facilitating a renaissance of the city's rail network
Improvements to Auckland's public transport network, such as more frequent services and better infrastructure, have paid off for Auckland Transport with increased patronage and greater customer satisfaction with the whole system.
Project DART (Developing Auckland's Rail Transport) has taken the vision of improving Auckland's transport corridor an impressive step further towards creating a successful system for the country's largest city. Upgrade works to Auckland's rail infrastructure have enabled more frequent and reliable services, and have improved pedestrian safety around the network. The DART projects, which include the upgrade of stations at Remuera, Grafton, Kingsland and the Manukau Interchange with a combined project value of $600 million have been carried out for KiwiRail and Auckland Transport. The lead architect is Opus Architecture and the civil, structural and environmental design consultant for the project has been Opus International Consultants.
Another part of Auckland Transport's vision is to allow for future upgrades such as electrification of the network, so consultants included requirements such as large vertical clearances above trains for wires and the earthing of all steel into its design.
