Nature's vision
Tones and textures from the surrounding landscape have influenced all aspects of the interior design of this weekend retreat
When building a home on the shores of a lake with extensive views out over the surrounding sheep station, it is hard not to be influenced by the natural beauty around you.
Designed as a weekend retreat, the architecture of this house mimics the forms and textures of its environs, while the interior colour scheme is informed by the rockface that edges the lake.
With the view being of paramount importance, designer Jenny Harris of Yellowfox, has devised a non-intrusive interior design low-profile furnishings, muted tones and textural elements all work to reinforce the link with nature without obstructing the view.
The kitchen, manufactured by TK&C Kitchen Maker, features cabinetry in Bestwood melamine in Fossilite teamed with Beige Dresda Quarella countertops from Tile Warehouse and zebrano panels from Tawa Door Company on the island.
Tile Warehouse Yura Foggy porcelain tile and new release Charlton nylon carpet from Norman Ellison continue the natural hues and provide a visual link between the rooms.
In the bathroom, natural hues again dominate, while chunky, rectilinear fixtures and fittings supplied by Robertson reference the square architectural style of the home. Picasso Mocha mosaic tiles by Tile Warehouse have been chosen to further enhance the linearity of the overall design scheme.
