Mediterranean revival
Understated earthy tones are enhanced by richer, iridescent detailing in this dramatic and light-filled master suite
Certain design themes remain popular, no matter what is currently in vogue. With its relaxed, yet opulent colors, and details such as archways and tiled floors, Spanish Revival is a style that will always be alive and well.
The master bathroom in this home follows the Spanish Revival style evident in the rest of the house. A high, double-vaulted ceiling finished in gold leaf is adorned with a wrought iron chandelier. Mosaic tiles on the outside of the tub add luster, while adhering to the theme, says project architect Bulent Baydar from Harrison Design Associates.
"The tub is positioned to float in the space, bringing a sense of dynamic tension to the room, which is emphasized by the angles coming down from the vaulted ceiling. Its position also allows for a wide surround, providing space for candles and decorations," he says.
Colors in the bathroom are earthy, yet highlighted by the shine of details, such as the gold picture and mirror frames and the candle fixtures above the vanity, as well as the gold silk curtains.
The bedroom uses the same color palette, but is understated in comparison, with cool green and gold tones that are illuminated by natural light flooding in through the large windows.
