Besides addressing practical needs, an effective interior design naturally presents a pleasing visual composition – with close consideration of texture, colour and form. And as any professional designer knows, the backdrop is a key player in the design.
Part of a whole-house renovation, the homeowners wanted their master suite to reflect a feeling of yesteryear, with an air of romanticism, says designer Natalie Du Bois, of Du Bois Designer Kitchens and Interiors.
“To evoke this aesthetic in the bedroom, I chose a subdued neutral grey base paint tone – Resene Half Stack – as a backdrop for the bright, cheerful floral patterns introduced on both the bed cushions and the upholstered armchair.”
A mid-tone grey, Resene Half Stack is also available as a Resene CoolColour, a paint that is engineered to avoid heat gain and as such is well suited to exterior use.
“For the master ensuite, I introduced large-format marble-look porcelain tiles on the floor. These classic, exotic tiles are matched with a grey-blue Resene Half Tuna on the walls.”
In fact, Resene Half Tuna was employed through the rest of the interior and is offered as a CoolColour, too. Both paints are part of Resene’s popular Whites & Neutrals range.
