Carpet selection for the Green Square North Tower was determined by the need to achieve points towards the building's Green Star rating. Cox Rayner interiors manager Wei Shun Lee says the company only looked at flooring that would meet the Green Star criteria. For this reason, Cox Rayner specified eco-friendly Equilibrium carpet tiles from InterfaceFlor Australia."InterfaceFlor undertakes considerable research and development and is an industry leader when it comes to green initiatives in carpet manufacture," Lee says. Green initiatives in the Green Square North Tower extend to the product specification for the office fit-outs. "The sustainable design features, including the recyclable backing and low emissions associated with the life cycle of the product, were not the only reasons we specified InterfaceFlor carpet tiles, however. As the tile was to be used as the base building carpet throughout, we needed a durable product. Carpet tiles produce less waste than broadloom carpet, and for ease of maintenance can be replaced individually if a particular area is marked or damaged. There is also a 15-year warranty with the company's product."The Equilibrium carpet tiles have a recycled component of up to 50%. The tiles can be recycled through InterFlor's optional ReEntry¢ carpet reclamation program. Incorporating world-first technology, ReEntry separates the backing and face cloth of reclaimed vinyl carpet and recycles each into new carpet and other products. Keeping more recycled vinyl and nylon in the production loop significantly reduces InterfaceFlor's use of virgin materials. Green initiatives in the Green Square North Tower extend to the product specification for the office fit-outs. ReEntry is able to reclaim all carpet tiles for recycling, even those not manufactured by InterfaceFlor, thereby keeping carpet out of landfill. Additionally, the company has identified recycling partners for other types of carpet materials reclaimed to ensure any reclaimed carpet has an alternative to landfill. For more information, contact InterfaceFlor Australia, freephone 1800 008 101.
