Knows no bounds
With its light weight, cost effectiveness and ease of installation, Alpine Stone allows for considerable design flexibility
Building materials that pose few restrictions on the design process can solve a long-standing challenge for architects and designers notably the need to work within budget constraints.
Alpine Stone is a composite stone range that replicates the look of natural stone, right down to the texture. But as it's a lightweight product, it can be used for projects such as tall chimneys and second storeys, where the structural costs involved in using natural stone might be prohibitive.
Company director Colin Dawson says Alpine Stone's cost-effectiveness is further enhanced by being quick and easy to install. Three of the five patterns come in a modular format, which helps speed installation.
"As Alpine Stone is manufactured rather than mined, it is also a sustainable product," Dawson says. "This was a factor in its selection for the Auckland Regional Botanical Garden's own display garden at the Ellerslie Flower Show last November."
The Alpine Stone range includes Ledgestone, Alpine Village Stone, Alpine Schist, Crawford Hills Stone and Riverstone. Coloured mortars are available to complement the stone veneers.
Dawson says the company now has a branch in the Queenstown area, to supply local projects with a cost-effective schist alternative.
"While it might seem like taking coals to Newcastle, there has been a consistent demand for a composite cladding that typifies the architectural vernacular of the Central Otago region," he says. "Alpine Stone meets this need."
