These owners love Poggenpohl kitchens and have commissioned us for every new home they build. The brief was for us to conceptualise a design for the open-plan dining and living areas. They are a large European family who love to cook and enjoy entertaining friends and family. As part of this, they required a contemporary design, with high end appliances and functionality. ChallengesWith such an expansive, open-plan space – floor to ceiling windows, dining to the side and living room in front – we wanted to embrace the spaciousness without creating walls or barriers to the flow, especially when entertaining large groups. We chose Ash Graphite timber grain door fronts to create a strong elegant visual appeal when you enter the space from the central hallway – this high quality door finish is both striking and durable – Poggenpohl uses environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing processes to reduce waste and CO2 emissions.Solution to required flow: We created a ‘central block’ from floor to ceiling to provide full kitchen facilities to the main front kitchen, as well as significant functionality to the butlers pantry behind – this pivotal design element meant we didn’t need to build additional walls and so allowed continuous flow through the area. The butler's pantry has capacity for food and drink preparation, but also an additional sink and dishwasher to accommodate entertaining larger events. Design details: We utilised Poggenpohl’s Segmento finger recesses in black steel – both for horizontal drawer pulls, but also vertically providing handless detail for integrated fridge, freezers, pantry etc.As a Miele Chartered Agency (MCA), we supplied Miele appliances in all black – superior quality appliances including: oven, combi steam, coffee, induction and pop up rangehood – an integrated fridge & freezer complement the contemporary design. For aesthetics and durability we specified Quantum Quartz porcelain in 12mm Super White – this has has a superior finish, with bookmatched slabs for the 457cm island bench.
