Into the light

The refurbishment of the British American Tobacco New Zealand offices presented an opportunity to increase product awareness in a flexible, open work environment

Design simplicity and maximum flexibility are key features of the desking system specified for the new British American Tobacco New Zealand offices. Dave White of Kada Commercial Furniture says the architect's brief called for a linear desking layout with screens spanning four metres.

"The screens needed to be freestanding, yet remain rigid," he says. "The system also had to be intelligent, with all power and data services reticulated through the screens and totally independent from the desks."

White says the desking itself needed to have a light look, rather than a dominating aesthetic.

"The desks are mobile and totally independent of the screens, so they can be rotated to form different seating layouts depending on requirements for team projects."

Kada's simplified Kit of Parts was utilised, allowing staff to control their workspace to suit their needs. The system includes mobile storage units. Kada also supplied canteen tables to the fit-out.
