Retaining the charm of an original homestead is a priority for many people undertaking a major villa renovation. One way to achieve such a look is through traditional craftsmanship.

The owners of the kitchen featured on these pages commissioned the woodworking skills of Angus Smith of Supreme Joinery, who says the choice of wood cabinetry was influenced by the rimu floors that feature elsewhere in the house.

The cabinetry is made from macrocarpa and comprises framed doors and drawers with insert panels. As well as general storage units, the cabinetry incorporates a large display cabinet with glass doors. Angus Smith also created a new table top from a large slab of Australian red gum.

Angus Smith is a qualified cabinetmaker with more than 23 years' experience, and is a member of the National Kitchen & Bathroom Association (NKBA).
