Holiday retreat
The design, materials, spaces and colours of this home reflect the relaxed coastal lifestyle of the owners and their teenage family

Although a new home is generally designed to suit individual needs, these often change quite quickly, so it's wise to make flexibility a key part of the plan.
A northerly aspect, proximity to the beach, good views and a boundary with protected coastal dunes made this site attractive to architect Scott Peabody of Arqus Design. This home, designed by Peabody (at the time with Ellivo), reflects these advantages and the need for flexibility. Two central axes connect living areas with the view and beach at the front and the dunes to one side. A flexible layout offers spaces for all the family, allowing them to be together or get away to private retreats. Sliding doors between spaces further improve the home's flexibility.

"The home's designed with a sense of transparency between internal volumes, which connects the two levels with the living areas," says Peabody.
Peabody's Arqus Design, a multi-disciplinary architectural practice with projects ranging from high-end residential to commercial work, focuses on economic, social and environmental sustainability.
