ENERGY-EFFICIENT APPROACH
Paying attention to even the smallest of details is essential if a building is to meet energy-efficiency ratings and satisfy green credentials.
For this project, architect Jasmax chose to install Billi Quadra under-bench drinking water appliances, imported by Merquip, in kitchens throughout the building.
This under-bench appliance delivers both boiling and chilled filtered drinking water from one benchtop tap that can be swivelled out of the way when not in use. Within the unit beneath the bench, a patented Thermodynamic Heat-Cell absorbs and stores a large amount of heat in a very small space. Energy generated during the chilling cycle is recovered and stored, then reused to preheat boiling water, saving power in the process.
High-performance insulation further enhances the Quadra's energy efficiency. An in-built electronic water-softening device reduces lime scale build-up, also helping maintain efficiency.
The Billi's water cooling system means the unit never gets hot, so the cupboard doesn't need ventilating, and space need not be left round the appliance. With no fan, there's no noise or vibration.
Merquip managing director Ross Merrick says the Billi was chosen for its energy efficiency, its ability to recapture and store energy for later use through its patented HeatCell, the small size of the under-bench module, its silence and lack of vibration and the fact that no cupboard ventilation is required.
