Congratulations to Carmel Wylie of GIA Renovations, winner of the 2025 TIDA Australia Powder Room of the Year – a design that makes connections

Following on from a kitchen renovation, the owner of this brick veneer home wanted to transform a basic bathroom straight off the dining room into a space that was more visually striking.

The designer also needed to work within the room’s existing footprint and retain the shower area as a more accessible space if needed in the future.

To meet these requests, the space has been divided into three distinct functional zones –  shower, toilet and vanity – with reeded glass panels separating these areas.

With no external walls, the room’s only natural light was from a skylight, so the glass panels also help keep the space light and bright throughout.

The material selection connects the new design with adjacent areas of the home – travertine tiles in a herringbone pattern mirror the brick paving in a nearby outdoor area, while the green freestanding basin complements the forest green of the kitchen cabinetry.

What impressed the TIDA judges was how the re-design creates the ambience and drama of a powder room, yet retains its use as a fully functional, secondary bathroom.
