Just as the kitchen has evolved from its utilitarian roots, so are the products that make up a kitchen continually re-designed, re-engineered and updated.

The latest faucet collections from Kohler, for example, reflect the company's renewed focus on broadening its kitchen faucet portfolio to reflect the diverse tastes and needs of homeowners.

Les Petch, senior product manager for Kohler kitchen faucets, says there are many simultaneous design directions, which makes it hard to put a finger on one overriding trend in faucet design. Rather, it is a variety of developments in design and functionality that industry experts are witnessing.

"One development that most experts agree on is the growing popularity of contemporary and transitional designs, such as the new Kohler Evoke¢ kitchen faucet," Petch says. "Homeowners are looking for products that not only make a strong design statement, but also provide great functionality and are easy to clean."

Petch says industry experts have also noticed a more eclectic product selection, in which contemporary and traditional products are mixed and matched in the same kitchen setting. For instance, stainless steel appliances are combined with Tuscan-style cabinets to freshen up the look. Or a farmhouse, apron-front sink is paired with a professional, pullout kitchen faucet that provides increased functionality.

"We are also seeing an increased interest in bridge design and wall-mount faucets, and there's a growing trend for secondary sinks and faucets. Homeowners are appreciating the added convenience of a secondary faucet with spray functionality and they want all the kitchen faucets to share similar design lines."

Kohler's latest faucet releases epitomize these trends. The single-lever Evoke faucet has an avant-garde design that makes a bold statement. At the same time, the faucet is intuitive to use and minimal in its form, allowing the sink to look clean and uncluttered.

Kohler's new HiRise¢ faucet collection is another option. These solid stainless steel faucets complement the existing HiRise pot filler. Signature pieces in this collection are two new bridge faucets with high-arc spouts, and a patented, independent sidespray. This faucet accessory is angled in its holder when at rest, which means it can even be used hands-free to rinse dishes.
