Glossy and impressive
L-shape kitchen design creates a multi-use, multifunctional space

The owners – a professional couple – wanted an entertainer’s dream kitchen and requested something glossy and impressive including a wine cellar, with freedom to move walls to suit the design.
The original floor plan had the proposed kitchen layout along the back wall, a small in-built pantry and an external door out to the deck, with the island going the opposite way.

To create a multi-use, multi-functional space, I redesigned the kitchen into an L-shape, replaced the external door with a bi-fold window and created the seating area with wine/beverage fridges centrally located.
Copacabana granite was chosen for the island, which needed a substantia,l concealed internal metal frame to cantilever the top. All drawers and lift systems utilise Blum Servo Drive technology to create a streamlined effect.
To utilise the extended ceiling height, we suspended a bulkhead over the island. The bulkhead incorporated multi-coloured LED uplighting as well as downlights.
Fixings for the bulkhead were incorporated into the ceiling space during construction.

Stainless steel tops ran into the bi-fold window – the extra depth the new window created was utilised for a panama fitting to keep drinks cold while cooking outside on the barbeque.
Hafele Hawa fold-back pocket doors conceal the pantry area, with a push to open extendable benchtop.
The wine cellar has a concealed glass sliding door, custom made stainless dowels to support bottles of wine with floating shelves, and concealed LED lighting around perimeter for a dramatic effect when entering via the stairs.
