Finding flavor

It's often the details that set a product apart. In the latest appliance collection from DCS, the small things add up

Just about everyone seems to be juggling work and family life these days. So an oven that can streamline meal preparation and cook food beautifully has to be worth a second look.

The latest appliance collection from DCS by Fisher & Paykel is targeted at the homeowner. But, like all DCS models, it was designed to meet the needs of the professional chef. This means all the products incorporate features that ensure your food is cooked exactly as you like it.

The 30-inch Professional, self-cleaning gas range is a good example. The range offers five sealed Dual Flow burners that can offer 17,500 BTUs, which means food is cooked at a higher temperature than with conventional burners. The Dual Flow burners also offer a special simmer setting, whereby the primary flame on the burners shuts off automatically, leaving only a smaller retention flame alight. This allows you to maintain a constant simmer temperature, as low as 140°F, which will prevent sauces from scalding.

This range also has a glass-sealed infrared broiler. Positioning the broiler behind glass allows food, such as steak, to cook more quickly and at a higher temperature than convected heat. This ensures your steak will broil rather than bake.

Dual Flow Burners are also a feature of the CT-365 36-inch Drop-in cooktop, which can be combined with a DCS oven, such as the WOS-130 30-inch single wall oven.

Available in stainless steel, this streamlined wall oven offers a 4.3cu ft capacity and electronic sensor-touch controls. The oven also has a glass-sealed broiling element. Another innovation from DCS is the hidden element under the oven floor. Concealing the live element increases available space and distributes heat more evenly.

The 30-inch wall oven also features racks on rollers, which prevent the racks sticking when hot metal expands. The racks slide out effortlessly, making for safer and easier cooking.

This oven is also available as a double wall oven ideal if you like to entertain frequently. The double oven provides twice the cooking capacity, and offers all the features of the single oven.

To complement these ovens, DCS has a 30-inch warming drawer, also available in stainless steel. The drawer can accommodate six dinner plates on a removable stainless steel shelf that doubles as a serving tray. The temperature within the drawer can range from 90-230°F, and there is a setting to keep food moist and crisp.

Many homeowners are also enjoying the time-saving benefits of the DCS 24-inch, stainless steel convection microwave oven, which can be either free-standing or built in. The oven incorporates microwave convection, combination and broil options. This means it can bake, broil, brown, crisp and roast food in considerably less time than a conventional oven without sacrificing the flavor or texture of your food.

In further news from DCS, the company is now owned by Fisher & Paykel Appliances Holdings Limited. John Bongard, Fisher & Paykel managing director and CEO, says DCS is considered one of the leading brands of high-end indoor and outdoor cooking appliances in the US.

"The DCS products are an excellent fit with our own dedicated US range of kitchen and laundry products, and will provide us with a comprehensive suite of premium appliances for the US market."

Bongard says the acquisition of DCS allows Fisher & Paykel to build on its existing US sales and distribution infrastructure, with a completely new cooking range, which is complementary to the company's existing range of premium product.
