This project conceives the kitchen as a layered architectural sequence, introducing a fully resolved scullery, within a large waterfront home.

Through the strategic extension of an existing wall, the footprint has been reconfigured to accommodate a generous, full-scale scullery, equipped with sink, dishwasher, double-door refrigerator, and extensive open storage – establishing a highly functional back-of-house zone.

Positioned directly behind the primary kitchen, the scullery operates as a concealed working layer, allowing the front-of-house kitchen to remain visually restrained and ordered. 

The main space is defined by double pantries and a continuous run of grey mirrored splashbacks, extending through both the preparation and drinks zones. 

These reflective surfaces capture and refract the surrounding waterfront landscape, visually extending the interior plane beyond its physical boundaries.

Materiality and colour are used to articulate transition and depth. 

The owners’ affinity for green is expressed through a dual-toned palette – soft, pale green cabinetry providing a light, ambient base, contrasted with deeper olive tones to the tall elements framing the threshold to the scullery. 

This tonal shift reinforces the spatial progression between zones.

Cool white stone benchtops and an integrated white sink establish a crisp, monolithic surface language, while brass tapware and hardware introduce a controlled warmth and tactility. 

The composition balances precision and softness, resulting in a kitchen environment that is both highly resolved in its planning and expressive of its waterfront context.
