Simple clean lines and clear, uncluttered spaces are key features of many of the examples of modern architecture admired today. Such design principles can be applied equally to the architecture of large commercial buildings and the individual elements of single rooms.

Award-winning Australian architect Ian Moore is known for an immaculate style and a distinctive minimalist approach. He displays clever use of space in the execution of his projects, both locally and internationally.

More recently, he has incorporated his minimalist approach to design a new collection in conjunction with Caroma Dorf, Australia's only sanitaryware manufacturer.

The new series comprises five bathrooms that have each been designed to reflect different lifestyles, including a Caroma luxury bathroom, a commercial bathroom, an apartment bathroom, a Fowler prestige bathroom and a care bathroom.

"The signature bathroom series that has been designed for Caroma Dorf is a development of a bathroom system that was first implemented more than 20 years ago. The system has been constantly refined over that period, in both individual houses and in a number of large-scale residential apartment developments," says Moore.

"Overall, throughout this bathroom series, my design principle and the inspiration behind it was to create spacious-looking interiors through the use of efficient, uncluttered space planning."

An example of this is in the development of wall-hung vanities with under-mounted basins and concealed cistern toilet suites from the new Caroma Invisi Series II and Fowler Icon Series II ranges. These space-saving devices allow the bathroom to feel larger and less cluttered. When features such as this are combined with end walls of glass that look onto a framed view or landscaped courtyard, the bathroom starts to feel even more spacious.

All materials used in The Ian Moore Designer Bathroom Series are interchangeable without altering the basic detailing. Simple colours have been added to create a striking, yet uncomplicated look. The deliberate and precise use of mirrors and reflective surfaces helps counter any possible space constraints in the bathrooms.

All five bathrooms in the series are clearly related, but have their own individual character. Similarly, the Caroma Dorf products have been chosen so they can be matched with other product ranges from the company. For instance, the Caroma Cube toilet suite and basin ranges complement the Caroma Liano tapware and accessory range as they both feature square and rectangular forms.

Another important aim of the series was to provide adequate storage while reducing visual clutter. To achieve this, a false wall was created to conceal mirrored door cabinets above basins and toilets, toilet cisterns and plumbing.
