Designer's choice
An ongoing commitment to innovative products ensures that Smeg appliances remain the first choice for many creative professionals
Reliability may not seem like the most exciting descriptive word, but apply it to a creative profession such as kitchen design and it takes on a whole new meaning.
When kitchen designer Mal Corboy, CKNDZ, was asked why he chose Smeg appliances for this retro-inspired kitchen, he claimed reliability was a key factor.
"As a brand you can rely upon Smeg to keep abreast of international trends. The company is continually coming out with innovative designs," he says. "These days clients are more open to creative ideas in kitchen design and they are embracing the luxurious feel of rich colour."
The 1970s look of this kitchen was inspired by a design premiered in Milan. Corboy was able to use the bright orange Smeg 330 litre refrigerator/freezer as a curvaceous book end to the line of back wall cabinets. In addition to its vibrant look, the refrigerator/freezer has a number of practical features including adjustable glass shelves, adjustable thermostat and automatic defrost.
Above the island, the twin Smeg cylindrical hoods offer an interesting visual contrast to the straight lines and linear appeal of the cabinetry.
