Strategic, comprehensive illumination for the stadium fell to Philips Lighting
New floodlighting systems for the stadium reflect adroit lighting scenarios and leading-edge industry technologies. Philips Lighting was involved in this project as a partner of Aurecon, which was engaged to provide strategic engineering advice on two key aspects of the project sports lighting and shading.
To light the sports field to the highest technical standard, numerous technical aspects had to be addressed, including avoiding glare, reduction of spill lighting and sky glow around the park, and fulfilling HDTV broadcasting requirements. The design also had to cater to the needs of different sporting codes for example, cricket and rugby games are lit differently.
Philips Arenavision 4 provided an advanced solution, with an improved light output ratio and beam control. The wraparound nature of the new architecture means leading edges of the North and South Stands can accommodate a symmetrical linear lighting array, a first in New Zealand. A new Philips Dynalite lighting control system gives a single central computer total control over all sports-lighting luminaires across the stadium. In addition, Aurecon introduced a system where controlled switching ensures the field is never over-lit by more than 10% resulting in a more stable light level for cameras, maximised lamp life and some significant energy savings.
