City-centre community
Rhubarb Lane in Auckland's CBD has been designed to offer an holistic community environment within a city-centre context
First recognised in the late 70s and gaining wider credence in recent years, the concept of work-life balance has many adherents, not least of whom you'll find within the field of architecture, and in the concept behind Rhubarb Lane, Victoria Quarter in Auckland's CBD. Mixed-use developments that offer a range of residential, commercial and retail options are rising in popularity and offer a real sense of community.
"Rhubarb Lane, presented by Multiplex Living, is a property and lifestyle offer that brings an international dynamic to a local market," says Tim Willing, Multiplex Living director, sales and marketing Australia and New Zealand. "A line-up of international architects including Ian Moore Architects, the firm behind No. 1 Rhubarb Lane has been invited to collaborate in the project, which encapsulates intelligent, sustainable design principles that will be brought into being within a diverse range of spaces."
The six buildings of Rhubarb Lane, each by a different architect, offer 77 aPods loft spaces suitable for residential or commercial occupation, or both, says Willing. "By choosing to live where they work, inhabitants of Rhubarb Lane will create their own community. Village-style shopping, parks and pedestrian-friendly streets these are the framework of Rhubarb Lane, but its true worth lies in those who will choose to live, work and play there."
