Best of Both Worlds
Aluminium joinery allows for lightness and space
An airy space doesn't mean sacrificing privacy. Using hush glass and aluminium-framed panels that look light and move smoothly enhances the feeling of spaciousness.
Aluminium Systems' silvery-grey, extruded aluminium joinery was specified for software company Enabling's office fit-out because the manufacturers, Ellison's Aluminium, found solutions to build the seamless effect required.
Aluminium Systems provided 40mm architectural series joinery for the fit-out, says Pauline Nola of Aluminium Systems.
"Here is a project with its object achieved substantially by joinery," Nola says.
The sliding doors needed to be bottom-rolling so the weight of each glazed panel is not supported by the lightweight thermo roofing. Instead, the door frames are self-supporting.
In keeping with a character building, the external walls and joinery were untouched. The only change in the external joinery was the installation of a new commercial front entry.
Inside, the rolling glass-and-aluminium panels can easily divide the open area into offices when the need for privacy arises. Ellison's Aluminium found the 40mm suite worked well for recessing the tracks in the wooden floors to accommodate the sliding doors.
