There are many beautiful aspects of period-style homes that encourage us to re-create the look in a new residence. But, even though we want the ambiance to be perfect, we don't want to forgo modern conveniences.

This Georgian style home was built new in an area rich with history the commuity comprises solid sandstone and brick homes built early last century. Today, builders of new homes in the area want to retain the same feel.

Brian Murray, principal homebuilder for Granville Homes, says when constructing this home, he ensured quality fittings and fixtures were specified, which would not only enhance the look, but also ensure ease of use and maintenance.

These included energy-efficient windows by Loewen. Throughout the home there are 23 cottage-style, double-hung windows, four terrace doors, five casements, one awning and two single-hung Loewen windows.

The homeowners say these have introduced plenty of natural light into the home one of their specific requirements.

"The double-hung windows offer an old-world feel that fits with the style of our house. They are also very easy to access, clean and maneuver," they say.

These windows feature in the dining room, where their custom shape helps to accentuate the oval shape of the room. Opening from both the top and bottom, these windows complement the room's classic interior, which also includes wide baseboards, large doorways and mahogany cabinetry.

The swinging terrace doors and casement windows were specified as they allow for expansive views, with their large panes of glass. The awning window lets air circulate freely.

"We've used many different window companies over the years, but to get the combination of quality and value, today, we use Loewen," Murray says. "Loewen really is at the front of the pack due to its efforts in research and development."
