With the growing demand for sustainability, every element of an interior fit-out is now subject to research and development, with many positive spin-offs.Exposed ducting is the latest product to come under the spotlight. DuctSox® Systems, distributed by Smooth-Air, is a cost-effective fabric alternative to metal ducting. DuctSox is used to distribute and disperse air through a combination of porous fabrics, engineered orifices and vents.Vince Atkinson, Smooth-Air national sales and marketing manager, says DuctSox meets a large range of HVAC and refrigeration requirements, in virtually every market segment. "Fabric ducting offers a number of special benefits, including uniform air dispersion along the entire length of the system. DuctSox is also simple and easy to install it takes about 10% of the time involved in installing conventional metal ducting."Atkinson says the system weighs considerably less than metal ducting, which translates to lighter roof loads, easier handling, and a reduced need for power lifting equipment. DuctSox can be packaged and shipped in small, lightweight packages, reducing transportation costs and minimising the risk of damage."DuctSox fabrics won't dent or scratch, so damage from moving objects, such as volleyballs and basketballs is eliminated. And because air passes through the fabric, there is no risk of condensation, which can result in bacteria and mould growth. Several DuctSox products also include antimicrobial treatments that significantly increase the hygienic benefits." DuctSox is available in many different products, with each line offering a number of colour options, or custom colours can be manufactured. Several different flow patterns are also available, and two of the lines are manufactured from up to 55% recycled materials."Because the ducting is 100% custom made for each project, there is no excess fabric and minimal waste, which is another sustainable design benefit," says Atkinson. For more information, contact Smooth-Air, phone 0800 Smooth (766 684).
