Year-round enjoyment

The transformation of Saint Kentigern's sporting facilities was not limited to the Jubilee Sports Centre. Outdoor sports options have been effectively doubled with a new all-weather surface that means the field can be used year round, rain or shine.

"TigerTurf was subcontracted to supply and install the all-weather surface and to complete the upper base, due to the experience and skills that our specialist staff offers clients like Saint Kentigern," says TigerTurf product manager Grant Fickling. "From there we utilised our laser-controlled machinery to ensure a perfectly flat surface. The laser-grading technology was initially developed by TigerTurf for bowling greens due to the fine tolerances critical for successful surfaces for that sport."

The surface was sprayed with the TigerBond system to ensure ongoing stability, followed by the installation of a rubber comfort pad to provide comfort and reduce the impact of falls. Finally the Astrograss surface, complete with line markings to the school's specifications, was installed. Astrograss is a robust, multi-use all-weather surface, sand-filled to ensure long-term durability under constant use even for sports such as hockey.

TigerTurf began in 1981 as a small, local company and now operates worldwide through manufacturing plants in the United Kingdom, the United States and a significant operation in Australia. Besides multi-use pitches and courts, the company manufactures and installs all-weather surfaces for tennis, hockey, football, bowls, cricket, golf, playgrounds and landscaping.
