Winning outlook Natasha Wright won the Kitchen Studio Design Awards 2013

It is easy to see a company cares about its industry when it holds a nationwide competition for all its design stores.

Kitchen Studio, a leading New Zealand kitchen specialist, has 16 showrooms employing 40 design consultants across the country, says CEO Andrew Crossland.

As part of its focus on excellence in design, the company holds annual Kitchen Studio Design Awards, open to all its consultants. In 2013, Natasha Wright, a design consultant at Kitchen Studio North Shore, won the Kitchen of the Year Award, sponsored by Bramco Granite & Marble.

This kitchen was part of an addition to a 1890s villa. It had to have a modern edge and incorporate a laundry, says Wright.

"Black gloss cabinets, stainless steel benches and negative detail create a sleek look, while the pink floral wallpaper adds a feminine contrast. A large furniture-style island connects with the living spaces.

"There are several high-end appliances, a pull-out pantry and soft-close drawers," she says. "The wall-mounted washer and dryer are screened from sight by a black gloss roller door when not in use."
