Where the world falls away

A sumptuous guest bathroom with pill-shaped mirrors and a step up bath retains classic detailing while the master bathroom, now opened to the master bedroom, follows a similar vein – both offer delicious escapism

Designed by Anna-Carin Design

From the designer:

With their children now flown the nest, our homeowners were ready to add a little luxury to their charming Paddington terrace home.

An unused bedroom was reborn as a show-stopping guest bathroom, complete with a step-up bath looking onto the clouds, and an island vanity topped with pill-shaped mirrors.

Respect for the original architecture was key; the room’s decorative cornices, skirtings and door hardware were retained so as to maintain a link with the home’s history.

In the nearby primary suite, the focus was on connection and luxury.

Removing a wall between the bedroom and ensuite blurs the lines between the two spaces, while making them feel bigger and brighter.

To create consistency, the serene palette used in the guest bathroom was carried through to the ensuite, juxtaposed with a wall lined in richly patterned Cole & Sons forest wallpaper.

Taking cues from the verdant tones in the ensuite’s feature wallpaper, the bedroom was remade as a cosy retreat in pistachio, teal and rust.

A custom bedhead that we re-upholstered in burnt-orange velvet creates a striking focal point, and cleverly disguises the half-wall division between the sleep and bathing spaces.

The result?

A cocooning and inviting space where the rest of the world falls away.
