The strength of a masonry-built home can be seen from the street. Deep window reveals and masonry pillars are two signs of the solid construction that is integral to the overall look. Add to this masonry's acoustic and thermal advantages and the picture of reliable investment is complete.

Builder-project management company Town & Country Residential and design partner Dimension Design collaborate on a variety of classic-look masonry houses.

Architectural designer Barry Northcott, of Dimension Design, says the companies create strong, solid houses that respond directly to a client's individual needs.

"Here, the client wanted a light-filled home, with generous-sized bedrooms and dramatic living and entertaining spaces," says Northcott. "We created a design that is open through its heart, with living areas to the front and back, and a large contemporary kitchen between the design gives views from throughout the home straight over the Waitakeres to Rangitoto."

The three-level residence steps down a hillside and has a lift, garaging for three cars, and an outdoor-indoor room to the rear. In addition, an apartment-like master suite on the top level features an ensuite, a private living area and its own terrace.

Director of Town & Country Warren Pointon says the client is consulted on all exterior and interior palettes and finishes.
