Bank services pose challenge for ITC Group consultants

Ensuring all systems are operational 24 hours a day is essential for a major bank down time is simply not an option. ITC Group director Geoff Dargan says the company, which designed all the building services for the UBS project, was mindful of the need to provide fail-safe systems especially in light of the huge volume of sharemarket transactions.
"For this reason, the bank's data centre has an N+1 redundancy rating, which includes dual uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and a 100% diesel generator and back-up. Air conditioning is supported by both air- and water-cooled systems to provide true redundancy."

Geoff Dargan says ITC Group was involved in the design of the building infrastructure right from the planning stages, to ensure the development would accommodate the bank's requirements.
"Working to a very tight time frame was another major challenge for the company," he says. "In addition to specifying the power supply, and all communication services, ITC Group also designed the fire services, air conditioning, security, hydraulics, and an energy-efficient automatic lighting system.

ITC Group's involvement did not end with the commissioning of the building. The company now maintains and manages the data centre on an ongoing basis, undertaking regular tests to ensure all systems are fully operational.
