Functionality is everything in the kitchen. And it's not just good kitchen design and advanced appliance technology that make the difference every item you use has a role to play. With this in mind, the design team at Kohler looked beyond pure aesthetics to transform faucet functionality. The result is the new Karbon articulating faucet, which has a spray head that can be positioned exactly where it is needed, leaving your hands free for other tasks. However, aesthetics have not been compromised. Les Petch, senior product manager for Kohler kitchen faucets, says the Karbon design is as much about art as it is about presenting a new generation in faucet technology."Form really does follow function in this case," he says. "But that doesn't take away from the fact that the Karbon is a highly innovative example of modern industrial design." Image of Kohler's new 8 Degree stainless steel sink and tapware which features sloping walls. Inspired by the articulated joints of lighting and construction equipment, the Karbon will maintain its position, keeping the spray head and water flow exactly where required. The faucet offers both spray and aerated flow options, eliminating the need for a sidespray.A remote joystick valve features two disks installed flush with the countertop to provide an unusually sleek look. They also ensure the faucet is easy to clean.Other recent innovations from the Kohler team include the Cordial entertainment sink, shown above. Introduced at this year's Kitchen/Bath Industry Show (KBIS), the sink provides a functional storage place for beverages and glassware. To facilitate drink preparation, the cast iron sink comes with a cutting board for garnishes, a pouring tray and an ice-mold. The mold is designed to provide a wine-chilling block of ice that nests in the basin, complete with holes for three bottles. The Crevasse rinsing sink is another innovation from Kohler. This long, narrow sink incorporates Cynchronus¢ technology, which activates a rinsing action and garbage disposal at the touch of a button. The trough-like sloping design of the sink provides ample space for food waste to be brushed directly into the basin. Other new products creating attention at KBIS include the gleaming, stainless steel Brinx entertainment sink, and the 8 Degree¢ family of sinks. The 8 Degree sink has sloping front and back walls that create a roomy interior, which is ideal for cleaning large and unwieldy items. For more information, or details of your nearest distributor, contact Kohler, phone tollfree 800 4 Kohler (456 4537).
