Creating a home to relax in can go beyond having beautiful scenery, ergonomic layouts and comfortable furniture. Convenience is another aspect to consider, and in the modern world that can mean including the very latest smart home technologies.

This was the case when the owners purchased this three-storey Hong Kong residence with magnificent views of the sea and harbour.

Upon moving in, the owners wanted to get accustomed to their environment before beginning refurbishment. During this interim period, they encountered numerous technology problems, almost on a daily basis. For example, if they forgot to turn off the lights or air conditioning as they were going out, they would have to run up and down the house to remedy the oversight. When a call came in all the extensions in the house would ring, and it became difficult to locate where their phone messages were stored.

Interior designer Thomas Chan was then asked to design a sleek, contemporary interior that would seamlessly incorporate the technology. The outcome is that the house offers every electronic advantage, and it all operates behind the scenes.

The project took three years, with the result being that everything from the drapes, heating and entertainment systems to the phones, security and lighting are all controlled by one easy interface.

The owners spent time choosing the latest products for the electronic fit-out, and Clipsal was chosen to control the complex lighting scenarios and climate controls.

This means the owners can expand or modify the system as required.
