The western sun is seen from the casual living area, on the sheltered, louvred deck, and from the study. Windows and sliding doors are by Windowmakers. Nestled amongst mature pohutukawa trees, this generous home is perched on a clifftop with scenic outlooks across Auckland's Hobson Bay.The residence's east-facing windows were designed with large fixed glass panels to accentuate the views, says architect Robyn Bilkey.Bilkey chose anodised aluminium joinery, from Windowmakers' APL Architectural Series, to complement the home's natural colour palette grey pre-cast concrete panels mimicking the striations of the cliff below the home, and vertical dark stained, random thickness cedar boards reflecting the texture and shadows of the pohutukawa around the established site. This custom architectural front door melds into the exterior with distinctive stained cedar battens mounted on a plasma panel. "The finish is also a reference to the old black baches with white joinery of New Zealand's classic and casual mid-century," says Bilkey.Windowmakers played a vital part in ensuring her vision for the house was fulfilled from start to finish. For example, the company enhanced the main entrance by designing a custom door with rustic stained-cedar battens blending it in with the home's cladding.Working closely with architects, owners and building companies to achieve the right look for their designs is a passion for all Windowmakers project managers, and Paul Keen, who worked on this elevated project, is no exception. Designed by architect Robyn Bilkey and built by LBG Builders, this home features windows and doors from Windowmakers. The house is designed for maximum views and sun, with the main rooms arranged around the north axis as such, window and door treatments were a key part of its success. "Here, the design intention was to achieve a modern look using traditional materials and create a spacious feel inside," says Keen. For inspiration, visit the Windowmakers Design Centre, 79 Forge Rd, Silverdale, Auckland, phone 0800 89 49 89, email: info@windowmakers.co.nz, web: www.windowmakers.co.nz Story by: Trendsideas 11 Mar, 2016 New Home Trendsideas Home kitchen bathroom commercial design Latest Post Deep in the jungle 22 Dec, 2024 Mixing it up 22 Dec, 2024 Rounded perspective 15 Dec, 2024 We know the Specialists Related Book More Books > Home Trends Vol. 31/12 Trends Home brings you the best homes, kitchens and bathrooms, both local and international.
