The walls are alive
The wide range of energy-saving light fixtures from Zumtobel was the ideal choice to contribute to the 6-Star rating
The choice and positioning of light fixtures can greatly impact on the energy efficiency of a building and play a large part in the Green Star rating it achieves. In its endeavour to reach a 6-Star Green Star goal, Umow Lai approached Zumtobel a company with a reputation for providing lighting solutions that are both visually pleasing and energy efficient.
One of the fixtures chosen was the Mellowlight IV. Used in the boardroom, as well as in other areas, it consists of a lighting chamber made of grid-mesh optic, which shields the T5 fluorescent lamp within, reducing glare in the room. It also pushes light out at an angle, so as to illuminate areas that a traditional ceiling fitting cannot. The lighting effect of the Mellowlight IV is very similar to the uniform luminance of daylight, says Zumtobel's Peter Lodge.
"This fitting can be controlled using integrated lighting-management systems, which enable a variety of light colours and illuminance levels," he says.
The Panos Q fitting was used in the reception area. This luminaire consists of a square one-piece reflector, and has a very high Light Output Ratio, making it an energy-efficient choice for this space.
For the foyer, Umow Lai chose the 2Light, which uses two reflector options within the fitting to give a diffused glow and a direct, vibrant effect.
