The new SkyCity Grand Hotel is designed to integrate both with the nearby conference centre and with the rest of the city's architecture

For the spacious entry lobby and cocktail lounge, architect Gordon Moller says the design objective was to create the atmosphere of luxury and sophistication expected in a five-star hotel. To achieve this brief, these areas were, in part, designed around works by several New Zealand artists, already in SkyCity's collection of major New Zealand artworks.

Simple, striking details such as limestone columns, wood panels and light walls help create this atmosphere and provide a backdrop for the art. The wall and ceiling colours were selected from the Resene The Range collection. Resene Zylone SpaceCote, a low-sheen, waterborne paint provides a tough, durable, enamel-like finish, well-suited to commercial locations.

Resene marketing manager Karen Warman says Resene Zylone SpaceCote provides the advantages of a waterborne paint, such as speed and ease of application, minimising disruption and downtime.

"When combined with a skim coating of Resene Broadwall Surface Prep, it's easy to achieve a great finish," says Warman.
