The sky's the limit
The new SkyCity Grand Hotel is designed to integrate both with the nearby conference centre and with the rest of the city's architecture
Retaining the same high standards inside both the public and private spaces of the hotel was a key element of the project.
Sockburn Joinery has had 33 years' experience in the joinery business, producing residential and commercial joinery and, more recently, joinery for large-scale projects throughout New Zealand. This has been achieved by investing in advanced technology and KD form manufacturing.
In the SkyCity Grand, the company applied its knowledge and expertise, working with interior architect Brewer Davidson and fitout contractor Fletcher Interiors, to build and install joinery to meet the required high standard. Its workmanship can be seen in the built-in furniture in the 296 standard rooms, eight self-contained suites, 11 executive suites and the penthouse suite, as well as on the wall panels in the corridors and lifts.
Managing director Tony Lemmens says the company's main challenge was to match the colour and grain in the veneer panels and solid timber to achieve a consistent finish through the building.
