To maintain the high-end interior of the Novotel Auckland Airport, the designers specified a matting system from Advance Flooring. Sales manager Lincoln Macintyre says the ExtraTread Entrance Matting System was custom manufactured to fit in the revolving entry door.

"The entrance mat needed to look attractive and fit in with the other design themes," he says. "But most importantly, it has to be able to trap as much moisture and soil as possible. It is an often overlooked fact that 70-80% of the dust and grime in public buildings is tracked in from the outside and spread throughout the building. An effective 4m-long entrance mat, such as ExtraTread will trap 85% of the dirt tracked inside."

Macintyre says the ExtraTread mat at Novotel also has a safety role. By absorbing moisture, it will help prevent people slipping on wet floor surfaces as they enter the building. It will also save on the amount of time, energy and cleaning chemicals needed to keep the building looking like new. The ExtraTread mat was fitted with a Black Clean-Off-Zone insert for maximum water absorbency.
