There's nothing quite like curling up on the sofa with a bowl of hot popcorn to watch a movie. With the increasing popularity of home theatre, more and more people are doing just that.

Keeping this is mind, Quality Designed Furniture custom makes couches, chairs and ottomans that will enhance this experience.

The company has set up a home theatre in its Auckland showroom to show clients how furniture can be custom-made to suit their home theatre needs. The sound-proofed room features a couch along the length of one wall, with a chaise longue on each end and an ottoman in the middle.

Company co-director Nick Holloway says individual pieces of furniture can be made to fit into any home theatre space, allowing clients to enjoy optimal viewing and listening positions.

"For example, we can make couches on two tiers so that the back row is higher than the front row."

Holloway and business partner Rob Black have more than 30 years experience in the furniture-making industry. With an emphasis on personal service, they take each project from concept through to completion.

"Our speciality is handcrafted furniture that offers a designer look without a hefty price tag," says Holloway.

"While the market for mass-produced furniture was well-established, we saw a real need for custom-made pieces with contemporary styling and quality materials all at a reasonable cost."

Pieces from Quality Designed Furniture are made to last and feature solid timber, quality fabrics, and strong stitching, says Holloway.

While leather remains a popular fabric choice with many of the company's clients, more and more people are opting for more textured fabrics, such as woven wool.
