Structurally sound

The fabrication and installation of architectural metalwork for the Millennium Arts Project was the responsibility of Queensland-based company Fineline Fabrication. To do this, the company worked to the concept plans of the architect and client to finalise design details and complete working drawings.

Fineline Fabrication's brief included architectural external features such as handrails, aluminium catwalks, steel stairs, all structural steelwork for internal glazing walls, architectural fencing, and gates. The company also provided steelwork for the carpark entrance, bike racks, leaning bike frames, carpark barriers and bollards. Where needed, the company also galvanised metalwork, carried out sandblasting and applied two-pack paint finishes and powdercoating in Champagne and Forrest Black to parts of the metalwork.

Director Wayne Burt says all the company's work is carried out to meet and exceed Australian standards, and for this project all work met the specified deadlines.

"When we are involved in a large project, it is particularly important to meet deadlines, otherwise later stages of the work can easily be held up," he says.

Fineline Fabrication has been involved in the construction industry since 1989, undertaking structural steel packages, fabricating metal components for the manufacturing industry and carrying out architectural metalwork contracts for the commercial and residential construction industry. The company also undertakes general welding work and fabricates pylons, signs and bikeway bridges.
