Strong identity house addition with copper cladding
KME TECU copper cladding from Craft Metals
Innovative architecture can be enhanced by an unconventional use of materials, as this renovation project illustrates.
The cottage, in a heritage area, has a contemporary addition at the rear, designed by Ken McBryde and Stephanie Smith of Innovarchi and built by Greater Constructions. The team specified KME TECU copper roofing and cladding from Craft Metals, which was installed by Architectural Roofing and Wall Cladding.

The copper was chosen to provide a lively finish and to highlight the unusual shape of the roof, which was derived from the triangular shapes found in traditional hipped roofs. Thomas Brenner of Craft Metals says the copper gives the house a harmonious outer skin that emphasises the twist in the falling roofline.
"KME TECU copper, which is 100% recyclable, has a long life span and will form a natural, protective patina that gradually changes from light brown to darker tones it may end up with a greenish tint. The system provides refined, low-impact seamed joints and cappings."
