Stone, wood and metal

A strong, limited palette and Bauthaup cabinetry ensure this kitchen is in tune with its high-end villa setting – a marble floor and a fluted walnut ceiling set the scene

Designed by Balan + Nambisan Architects

From the architects:

The setting

The setting for this kitchen is a high-end villa designed in a warm contemporary style – both in terms of architectural design as well as interior design and styling.

Using the expertise of traditional local artisans, three main materials are crafted into bespoke details and expressed in a contemporary manner throughout the home – stone, wood and metal.

These three materials are used in combination and subtly take on differing forms and textures through the interior.

The design language flows into the open kitchen, becoming an extension of the dining allowing for family and friends alike to gather.

The kitchen

We chose to collaborate with Bulthaup to bring the vision of the kitchen to life.

A taupe marble floor with a fluted walnut wooden ceiling sets the canvas for the kitchen.

The layout for the kitchen combined the function of cooking with that of entertainment, storage, aesthetics, interaction and much more.

The central island – with the hob facing the dining – was planned for maximum interaction.

The kitchen side of the island incorporates an abundance of closed storage whereas the dining side opens up as a breakfast counter and integrates open display areas.

Two tones of metal finish shutters (Champagne and Dark Bronze) combine with a backdrop of open wooden panelling.

The quartz counter extends seamless across the space and even onto one of the eastern walls of the kitchen.

A solid walnut breakfast counter is lifted at the island and stands out against the quartz counter and surround.

Appliances are tactfully hidden behind shutters – other than the hob, chimney and oven.

This home's high living vibe extends to the kitchen.
